In 1998, Eos 3 backed up Eos 1n. If this last were intended to the professionals, the 3 aimed at the customers of the user-experts.
It is very solid and the recourse to gold-plated contacts but, as with aluminium for its bayonet make an camera intended of it to last. Only, its sealing is less thorough than on the EOS-1N.
One of its main qualities is discovered by putting an eye in the viewfinder. There is not less than 45 autofocus collimators, which makes it frightening of precision. Those are gathered in a central oval area. In the center of this surface, a round gathers seven sensors even more precise. “To digest” the whole of the measures, the calculator of the camera is faster than that of Eos-1n. The speed thus obtained allows seven images/second in predictive mode.
It is possible to choose manually a collimator simultaneously by using two orders, but piloting with the eye remains the “standard” mode on this camera. Since, Eos 50 and Eos 50E, this mode of control made big progress. Thus, it is twice faster on the 3 than on Eos 50E.
Eos 3 uses the same power supplies as those of the 1n, with the same characteristics of motorization; another power unit, the PB-E2, came to supplement the range: compatible for the 1n, it allows up to 7 images a second.
The high price of this apparatus, 9500 french francs in 1998, makes it rather rare on the second-hand market, and even more on the secondhand trades.
