Chronology of cameras Macris-Boucher

The Nile Melior is a stereoscopic camera using 6x13 cm plates in single plate holders. (No. 6400)

This device is equipped with relatively short focal lenses (~ 65 mm) supposed accentuating the stereoscopic effect. There is the possibility of vertical shift.

The lenses are "Boyer Saphir Paris 1: 4.5 No. 85772 - 85822". The shutter is a 7speeds guillotine type plus time exposure. The diaphragms are calibrated 4.5, 9, and 18.

The name of this device is odd.

Should we see the influence of Egyptology in vogue at the time?

August 2009: Mr. Wunderink, from the Netherlands, offers the following hypothesis: "Nihil Melior" means "There is no best" in Latin.
