Chronology of cameras Minolta
History of the brand Minolta New window

Traduction de PB

First Aufocus SLR produced by Minolta, it was introduced with a new range of autofocus lenses using the "A" mount, used by all the Minolta range AF lenses (including numeric one) and currently used by Sony on the Alpha model. The shutter is electronically controlled with speeds from 30s to 1/2000s in program, manuel, Aperture priority, speed priority modes. These modes are selected by a push button on the left side of the top and controlled by 2 others buttons in front of the shutter release button. Three other buttons are used to select the sensibility (25 to 6400 ISO), the motorised mode (Single shot, burst and timer) and the exposure adjustment by step of 0,5 stop.
We can regret the absence of a multiexposure mode and the slow flash sync.
This camera was followed by an expert body the 9000 and a less expensive one the 5000.
These cameras were named Maxxum in North america and Alpha in Asia (name also reused by Sony for his digital SLR body)
The crossed X of the first maxxum series have created a polemic with Exxon which considered this crossed X as a trade mark of their brand name.
Minolta had to change his logo and the crossed X disappeared from the next production.
