Chronology of cameras Orionwerk
The Orionwerk Klapp-Reflex was a high-quality folding reflex camera delivered in Germany from 1924. The concept of folding reflex cameras was at the time being addressed by several makers, such as Contessa-Nettel Miroflex and the klapp-reflexes from Mentor and Ihagee. The Orionwerk Klapp-Reflex derived from a series of patents by Victor Wolny between 1916 and 1926.
The camera, for 9 x 12 plates, is fully metallic and very compact. According to Mckeown it is the smallest and rarest of the folding reflex cameras. It is designed for reflex use only and has no alternative sports viewfinder, such as for instance the Miroflex.
The focal plane shutter delivers speeds in the range 1/15 to 1/1500 plus Z. The lens in this specimen is a Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar with 15 cm of focal length and maximum aperture of 4.5.
