Chronology of cameras Secam

StylophotThe Stylophot cameras are small cameras shaped like a large ovoid pen. They are primarily made of bakelite, which makes them fragile. At the lower end, there is a metal reinforcement with a small threaded hole, likely for attachment to a tripod. At the upper end, there is a metal blade that can move vertically and is pierced with two holes. The higher of the two holes is covered by a translucent red eyepiece. When the blade is inside the camera, the red piece fits into the viewfinder. By pulling the blade upward, the unobstructed hole aligns with the viewfinder and makes it clear. Pulling the blade also arms the shutter. It is impossible to take a picture without prior shutter cocking.
On one side of the camera, there is a clip, similar to that of a pen. The camera can be carried in a pocket like a real pen. On the opposite side, there is a small shutter button. If you place the camera with the clip in the inner pocket of a jacket and open one side of it, it becomes very easy to discreetly take a photo, as the orientation of the clip, shutter button, and lens are all ideally positioned for this purpose.
Only the Luxe version has a focus that can be adjusted by rotating a ring around the Roussel lens, which has an aperture of 3.5. In other models, the lens is fixed-focus and lacks identification. The first version of the standard model has three diaphragm positions (6.3, 8, and 11). The Color version has only two, marked as Noir (Black) and Color.
Between the lens and the front window of the viewfinder, there is a small window through which the frame counter is visible. The back of the camera is made of metal. The film used is special, 16mm film that allows for 18 photos of 10 x 10 mm each.

The Luxe version features a flash synchronization capability. The price difference between the standard and Luxe versions was substantial: in 1959, it was 4,964 francs for the standard version and 14,892 francs for the Luxe version. At that price point, the Luxe version came with a leather case rather than a plastic one.

There is also a stereo version, which is initially an accessory into which two Stylophot cameras must be inserted and then coupled to synchronize their shutter release.

The Stylophot was the subject of several patents filed by Frédéric Kaftanski in 1955.
