Chronology of cameras Girard
Traduction de Daniel C
The hereunder advertisement dated 1902 is showing a camera very similar to mine but which may be differentiated by the location and design of the viewfinder.
The struts are similar to those of the model dated 1901. The camera body is showing rounded front edges. The plate between the two handles used to pull the lens stand is similar to those displayed on the advertisement. The two columns along which is sliding the lens/shutter block are twisted in order to avoid any unwanted vertical motion of the block. Horizontal shift is also provided.
The covering leather is not firmly stuck to the body and important areas are falling apart, surely because of the alloy forming the body (aluminum, Zamac ?) did not provide a good adherence of the glue.
At rear, a hatch is giving access to a ground glass for focusing. On this camera, the metal parts have been distorted because of aging and I do not dare removing the frame because of the possibility for the entire leather to fall apart.
An extractable rod, on the left side of the bed is available as a support for using the camera in vertical position.
The camera is fitted with a Bausch & Lomb shutter offering T, B, 1/25, 1/50 and 1/100 sec.
The lens has no name and gives a f/8 aperture.
