Chronology of cameras Foca
History of the brand Foca New window

The Boeotians " es Foca " will hardly navigate inside the genesis of the "one star "cameras  series . I'll try to keep it simple and to find out more (and all) about the matter, I advise you to read the inescapable book  "Foca graphie" " by J.L. Princelle, Editions " Le Rève" .

In 1946, OPL moves and stops the production of the PF2. While waiting to provide a real successor ( the PF2b) OPL manufactures and markets a simplified unit, the PF1, without rangefinder and with a fixed lens . The general form is that of PF2 and some technical elements, including the shutter, directly derived from it . The lens has a focal length of 35 mm , making it a go-anywhere camera , always ready. Obviously , its technical simplicity allows for a sale price lower than those of the PF2 .

In 1948, OPL manufactures the PF2b, successor of the PF2 . It receives technical enhancements . OPL replaces its PF1 (also called " painted star") by the PF1b ( the " engraved star " ) . The PF1b benefits from the improvements of the PF2b and mainly, its lens becomes interchangeable .

The PF1b has no rangefinder and shutter is limited to 1 /500 although it is the same as the PF2b .

In 1953, the PF1b is replaced by a new "One  Star ", the Standard S.

The numbers 64352 and 61318 that I possess were made in 1949. The second is very oxidized . Chromium plating shows blistering .
