Chronology of cameras Albini
History of the brand Albini New window

Traduction de D.C.

In 1896, the Albini company settled in Milano and started manufacturing detective camera named Alba.
At the beginning of the 20th century, this company seems to have been absorbed by the company Ganzini et Namias which marketed the Albini production.
The Alba No 64 is a folding plate camera made of black lacquered steel. The front of the camera shows a lens marked « Doppio Anastigmatico Albini » opening at 5,5  and offering a 100 mm focus length. (N° 5800).
Below the lens, a diaphragm selector, shaped as a smile, allows for choosing stops from 5.5 to 44.
Three trellis struts are maintaining the lens board parallel to the plate. One on each side of the bellow and one under it.
The setting of the distance is a bit peculiar. A nickel plated lever located between the bed and the bottom of the bellow is ending at the front of the camera toward a scaled distance plate engraved 11/2, 2, 5 and infinite.
Through an angular motion and by means of a came system, this lever moves the rear part of the camera to adjust the distance between the plate and the lens.
The shutter speed selector is engraved «  ALBA regulabile ». It offers 1/25, 1/50 et 1/100 sec + two speeds marked « A » et « B ».
The lens board is marked in gold with « ALBA » and below « N° 64 Brevettato ». The Alba logo is also marked in a form of a rising sun.
A scarcer variation of this camera is the Alba 63, the format of which is 4.5 x6 cm.
