 Traduction de Manuel M

The Al-Vista’s are a series of cameras that only the size of the negative distinguishes. All are based on the same technical principle and with the aim to take pictures with the panoramic format.

The lens is mounted on a vertical axle. A winding mechanism makes it possible to bend a spring. With the release, the clockwork released makes swivel round the lens by sweeping an angle close to 180°. Directly interdependent of the lens, the shutter is made of a narrow vertical slit. When the lens swivels round, the shutter, by the same way, expose the film, which itself is arranged in arc of circle on the bottom of the camera.

The speed of swivelling is controlled by an interchangeable air brake with blades. From the surface area of the blade ensues a resistance to the air, therefore a braking capacity. The more important the blade is, the more reduced is the motion.

This specimen was acquired in the United States, in a wreck condition. It was entirely restored, mechanically and aesthetically, by the Atelier de Blanc. The restoration is related and illustrated by photographs in the forum (see the thumb index “Sur le forum” in bottom of this page).

One can find this camera occasionally, but never in this condition.
