Chronology of cameras Jacquet

Traduction de Manuel M

(Photo-Revue 1901) The camera which we wish to speak to our readers, appreciably differs of what was made so far; the main improvements realized relate to the following points:
The system of focusing which is with cam, or eccentric;
The double off-centring of the lens;
The system of sophisticated retraction.

First of all, it is advisable to say that this jumelle camera is built entirely out of aluminium, which decreases its weight, its dimensions, and thus constitutes an universal camera, able to resist the highest temperatures, as well as with the polar ices.

The jumelle camera is composed of a cone carrying the shutter on which the lens went up, and of an independent magazine. The cone is provided with a carriage of focusing manipulated using a cam driven by a knurled knob (which is used at the same time of fixing screw and foot, which makes it possible to put the camera on any support).
The shutter makes it possible to obtain all speeds, in an absolute and regular] way; it can be operated with the hand or pear.
The double off-centring of the lens is obtained using two aluminium plates, guided by two mobile nuts in openings made in perpendicular directions; according to the direction of the made pressure one produced an sliding of the mobile plate in height or width, the other plate remaining fixed.

The magazine of retraction is independent of the camera.
The 12 (or 6) sensitive plates that it contains never do not find openly; so that one can always removed it of the cone without fear of unmasking, and needing to place a curtain of safety.
A notable improvement was brought to the functioning of the magazine. As aluminium can’t be subject to any friction resulting from its contact with other metals, it would result from this disadvantage a great difficulty of isolating the drawer from its envelope, while preserving to the operation a perfect rigidity. To cure it, one prolonged few millimeters the two lateral sides of the drawer, then one created a special frame provided with two slots in which these sides are guided, thus preserving a perfect parallelism between the drawer and its outer envelope.
The springs of the bottom, intended to support the plate, at the time of the retraction were replaced advantageously by a grip block provided with two tilted planes that the plates come to climb to place itself in the position which they must have in the drawer.
This set of improvements ensures with the magazine a regular and constant functioning, without there being to fear any failure.

The inventor-manufacturer of the jumelle camera Lutecia (1) is held personally at the disposal of many readers of the Photo-Revue who would wish to have additional information and to know the price of the camera with the different lenses that it can receive.
