Chronology of cameras Kiev
Kiev manufactured a series of camera, the Vega, 'inspired' from the Minolta 16. This is a Vega 2 Model B. It differs from model A by the fixing of the strap wrapped with an outgrowth protecting vaguely the settings of the speeds and apertures. The Vega 2 was preceded by the Vega and followed by the Kiev 30.
Several improvements have been made compared to the Minolta 16. First one is a distances setting (admittedly impractical because narrow, stiff and stuck to the bottom of a slot), then an exposure calculator (manual) and finally the spools have been slightly modified to allow 30 exposures instead of 20. The compatibility between the Minolta and Kiev standard spools is provided in some sense, but not all.
The Vega 2 comes in a 'leather' box made of cardboard; with UV, green and orange filters . The filters are arranged in a tiny pocket of their exact size against the rim of the case, it should also make them slide in two tiny slides over the lens. Imagining doing this with gloves in Siberian cold delights the mind.
The Vega 2 is interesting by the wide variety of metal textures: smooth, ribbed, dotted, marked with diamonds, milled. The filter colours are contrasting with the white metal almost dazzling.
