Chronology of cameras Balda
The Baldax series consists of compact folding cameras. They come in 4.5 x 6 or 6 x 6 formats using 120 film. The new design of their struts makes it easier to open the flap.
The series offers numerous combinations of lenses and shutters and was prolific during the 1930s. The war brought an end to its production, but with the revival of the brand in West Germany, models once again bore this name.
During production, several modifications were made. There are two sizes for the body, with the possibility of a slightly larger version (model 0) to accommodate larger diameter shutters. The edges of the body on some models have a recess, while on others, the edge is straight. The viewfinder changed shape and position on the body multiple times.
This small folding camera with automatic bellows extension is a 4.5 x 6, producing vertical images on 120 film when the camera is held horizontally. Among the two models presented by McKeown's, this is the Model 00, distinguished by its slightly smaller body.
During the film advance, a clicking sound may give the impression of a mechanism ensuring precise film transport. However, it is simply a mechanism designed to prevent double exposure. After advancing one frame, to advance again, you need to turn the dial in the opposite direction (without any practical effect, except for hearing the clicking sound). While this doesn't physically prevent double exposure, an experienced user can monitor the film's correct advancement through the non-actinic viewfinders. It was probably a wise choice to continue verifying the film's proper advancement using these indicators. However, a skilled user could work quickly (or in low light) without concern.
The folding viewfinder is equipped with a single lens.
The shutter release is on the lens, with a mechanism allowing it to be triggered in two distinct locations. It is necessary to manually cock the shutter before use.
The lens is a Meyer Görlitz Trioplan with an aperture of 4.5.
On this particular camera, distance markings are expressed in feet.
