Chronology of cameras Ebner

Traduction de Daniel C.

If we imagine the Regent from Kodak as the Father, This camera from Ebner as the mother and the Vogue from Coronet as the child, we could compose a quite credible and decent family.

This small Ebner ( which had a 6x9 format tall brother) is the perfect representative of the " bar of soap" shaped cameras the forms of which are smooth, round and without any protuberance (when folded). The film winding button is integrated to the body. The viewfinder frame and associated eyepiece may be folded. The handle fastening pieces may be removed to produce an even more pure shape.

The technical characteristics are classic. With self erection by pressing an opening button integrated into the top of the body. The lens is marked "Ebner" but its number (No 542 036) may mean that it has been built by a major manufacturer. The shutter is a Pronto S offering time delay capability.

Despite of its aesthetic quality induced by the use of the bakelite, the "bar of soap" cameras family has not been a success on the market because of its brittleness. The bottom of the range cameras did compensate this problem as they were sold at low cost.

__________

Horizontal folding cameras from Ebner do not have specific names; they are primarily distinguished by their reference numbers. The variations among these cameras typically relate to differences in the lens and shutter mechanisms.

  • 301 : Lens Ebner Anastigmat 6.3/7.5 and shutter Vario
  • 302 : Lens Meyer Trioplan 6.3/7.5 and shutter Vario
  • 303 : Lens Ebner Anastigmat 4.5/7.5 and shutter Pronto S
  • 304 : Lens Meyer Trioplan 4.5/7.5 and shutter Pronto S
  • 305 : Lens Meyer Primotar 3.5/7.5 and shutter Pronto S
  • 306 : Lens Meyer Trioplan 4.5/7.5 and shutter Compur
  • 307 : Lens Meyer Primotar 3.5//7.5 and shutter Compur
  • 308 : Lens Carl Zeiss Tessar 3.8/7.5 and shutter Compur

For these cameras, the beauty of the material and the purity of the design when the camera is closed are highlighted. According to the marketing pitch, Bakelite is touted for its high resistance to temperature, water (even saltwater), and scratches. Tropical conditions are also taken into account.

However, there is no mention of resistance to impacts.
