Chronology of cameras Argus

The C44 is a modified C4 to accommodate interchangeable lenses. Although there are C4 models with interchangeable lenses, they are modified caemras and not originally designed as such. The C44 represents a new model. It was manufactured in 1956 and 1957. Like the C4, it is a 35mm rangefinder camera. Despite a different appearance, some family resemblances with the bricks are recognizable, especially in the speed selector and the rangefinder operation.

It is presented here with its base lens, which has four elements, whereas the equivalent lens on the C4 had only three elements. There were also a 4.5/35mm and a 3.5/100mm lens available. In 1956, the camera, with its base lens, was sold for $97.50. The 35mm lens was priced at $56.50, and the 100mm lens was priced at $59.50.

A special viewfinder (Argus variable power viewfinder) could be attached to the accessory shoe to match the view to the focal length ($14.50). At the same location, an Argus L44 light meter could be attached ($17.50)."
