Kinax Provence

Traduction de Sylvain Halgand.

From Alsace, Picardy, Riviera, Ardennes, Normandy and Provence reserved for export towards the anglophone countries, Provence is in medium of range. It has a 4,5 Kinn lens , like Picardy, but compared to this one, it is equipped in addition to one retarder.
I do not know the exact date of sale of this camera, but the completion bond accompanying it makes it possible to say that its American importer was Raygram Corporation in New York.

Nothing on the camera indicates that it is about “Provence”. Only the distance scale graduated in feet (feet) makes it possible to know that it is about a model reserved for the anglophone markets.

Provence is the equivalent of Major/Senior. Like them, it has the shutter release on the body of the camera.

It should be noted that Provence was initially delivered with a shutter B, 1/10, 1/25, 1/50 and 1/150, then by the suitre, with a shutter B, 1 second, 1/2, 1/5, 1/10, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/200 and 1/350.

About the cameras intended for the American market, I have a very personal hypothesis on the reason of their name of French area. I think that they are the French areas in which, American fight during the two world wars:

Please see at french part (left one).

However, these cameras were sold in the USA (and in other Anglo-Saxon countries having taken part in the same combat) in the years which followed the second world war, whereas the GI had just returned on their premises, and that the veterans of the WWI were always alive. Marketing….
