Chronology of cameras Canon

Traduction de Sylvain Halgand

Canon AF 35M was one of the great innovations of the 33rd International Salon of the Photography of Paris.
This camera has five automatisms:

  • Automatism of the viewfinding
  • Automatism of the exposure
  • Automatism with the flash
  • Automatism of the advance of film
  • Automatism of the rewinding of film

What was new, was to find these characteristics in a camera whose size was not bigger than compact of the moment, usually not motorized and very often, definitely less elaborate.

The lens is a Canon 2,8/38 mm with 4 lenses in 3 groups.

Initials “CAFS” posted in frontage indicate the principle of focusing by infra-red. The transmitter is the lens which is on the left (by looking at the camera). Then, while going towards the line, we find the window of lighting of the collimated framework, then the finder and finally, the infra-red receiver.

The small lever located in bottom and on the right of the lens, and named “Self-timer Pre-focus” has a double function. When it is lowered, the camera memorizes the distance from focusing. If release is made before 10 seconds, there is no more modification of the distance by the autofocus. If we wait 10 seconds, release occurs as with a traditional retarder. The advantage of this system is to be able to make the focusing, then of recadrer the photograph.
