Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta C

Traduction de Sylvain Halgand.

The Super-Ikonta differs from Ikonta by the addition of a rangefinder and certain less obvious modifications.
The rangefinder is of a particular type formed of two parts. One is close to the lens, the other is on the body of the camera.
That, near to the lens is made of a hinged jib with the end of which is a rotary lens. The axis pivot of this arm hides under a serrated roller, gears which make turn in a synchronized way the frontal lens of the lens and the lens located at the end of the arm. The part fixed on the body of the camera resembles a usual rangefinder outside, with an eyepiece of aiming and two windows of entry of the image. One of these two windows is in the alignment of the part fixed close to the lens. On the body of the camera, it there no moving part. The fact of having the mechanism close to the lens reduces the risks of parallax in the telemetric aiming.

Among the other differences compared to Ikonta, we note a reinforcement of solidity and an increased luxury. In this camera, all is beautiful and very quite manufactured. Sleeving and the chrome completions are remarkable. The precision is exemplary, to be convinced some, it is enough to look at the button of advance of film.
On the camera, we find a collapsible finder made up of two parts. The former part makes up of a divergent lens. The back part presents a shining framework , representing the two sizes which can be obtained with this camera : 6 X 9 cm and 4,5 X 6 cm. Inside the camera, we find the removable mask which adapts the camera to 4,5 X 6 cm.
Opening of the camera is automatic, i.e. that the finder is unfolded, door opens and the bellows are spread while pressing on only one button. Only the former arm of the rangefinder must be unfolded manually.

The first Super-Ikonta date of 1933, but the series will continue successfully until in second half of the Fifties. Improvements were made, but the general principle (… and quality) were maintained. There are also "horizontal" Super-Ikonta, but which does not use all this principle of rangefinder.
Model 531/2 existed before (since 1936) and after the second world war, with several combinations of lens and shutter. That presented here, with a lens Tessar 3,5/105 mm and a shutter Compur Rapid (1/400) without synchronization.
