Certo Certotrop

Traduction de Manuel M

At first contact, this camera presents a very technical appearance (“high-tech” would say one now). The smallest format 6x9 (the specimen here) reinforces this impression.
Small details as the name of the model engraved under the lens-holder plate, the distance scale plate, the horizontal off-centring knurl, the black enamelled finish of the contour of the door of dulled glass, and the Certo logo stamped on leather, contribute to give to Certotrop a finishing of good quality. (It’s my opinion…).

This folding plate camera was produced since 1925 in 6 x 9 cm, 9 x 12 cm, or 10 x 15 cm pictures sizes. It strongly reminds Voigtländer Bergheil camera. It seems besides that Certo provided to Voigtländer some metal cases for these cameras.

The main feature is, as for Bergheil, the interchangeability of the lens plus shutter unit, though the operation appears less easy.

It allows also vertical and horizontal off-centring by knurl with reference marks.

The specimen presented is1933 dated and is equipped with a very luminous lens Schneider Kreuznach Xenar of 105 mm, aperture f: 2.9, on a Compur Shutter offering B, T, 1s to 1/200ème speeds.

Certotrop were also distributed to the United States under the name of Certo Bee Bee, by the distributor Burleigh Brooks (initials… B B !).

There was also a Certotrop Luxus with a case covered with maroon leather, like the bellow.
