Chronology of cameras Adams and Co.
The Adams & Co. Minex Deluxe (Model A) was released in 1909 and was produced until the early 1950s. When it was launched, the camera set a high standard with many features that were rare in other cameras. This particular specimen dates from after 1926, based on the shutter control configuration (type 4). It is a sturdy, large camera made of mahogany covered in black leather, with a spirit level. The image format is 4 x 5 inches.
The back is rotatable and operates a pair of masks that allow a proper view on the full-size ground glass screen. The viewfinder is equipped with a pair of positioning struts. The front panel can move vertically using a rack-and-pinion mechanism. The focusing is achieved through a rack-and-pinion on a single bellows. In a lower drawer, two plate holders can be stored.
The Adams & Co. focal plane shutter is a delayed action shutter on the second curtain with speeds ranging from 1/8 to 1/1000 seconds, plus B and T. A single button controls the mirror return, speed selection, and shutter cocking. A set of studs selects I/B and T, and two tension springs can be chosen.
The lens is a Carl Zeiss Tessar 4.5/16.5 cm, probably not original since the mount references 18 cm. The lens is mounted on a removable panel with no possibility of shifting or tilting.
