Chronology of cameras Pentax

In 1983, the Asahi Pentax co. decided to launch an expert model, the Super A.
The Super A was a camera designed to comply with professional needs and high level amateur photography. The only problem was the price. Although the camera was much powerful than the Canon A1 and Minolta X700, it's price was too high for a sucessfull career in amateur photography.
Pentax used a well known strategic system to solve the problem. Back in the seventies, they used to produce the SP500 and the K1000 model which were simplified versions oh higher models. To reduce prices, pentax decided to remove functions fron the Super A to make an entry lever camera without compromissions with quality and performance.
The Program A (Program plus in US Market) was the 1984's new Pentax.
It comes with a Seiko MCF-E5 shutter with 1/1000th maximum speed, 3,5 fps maximal speed using the Super A's Motor Drive A and X Sync. of 1/100th.
No TTL flash capability, no viewfinder lightnig and no external LCD screen are the main differences with the "big brother" Super A. Depth of field preview, self timer, Magic Pin loading and exposure compensation are still present.
Three exposure modes are aviable, Programmed exposure, aperture priority and manual mode. More stunning features are the maximum speed selection for loading film, used battery indicator and a warning message when you misuse the aperture ring when left to the A position in other modes than program.
The Super A is still a very usefull camera with a large viewfinder, solid construction and silent function.
