Chronology of cameras Caillon

This format 6 x 13 cm plate camera allows the production of stereo pairs plus in addition to an automatic panoramic mode.
This series K No 1 variation was marketed between 1904 and 1915. Other versions will be marketed longer. Dealers catalogues of this site are presenting these Bioscopes without being always able to distinguish between versions , which explains the difference in dates with these of the data sheet of our model.

The item presented here is equipped with Balbreck Max ( Paris ) lenses . There is no inscription on the lens except the brand. Each lens is provided with a rotatable perforated diaphragm . It is equipped by its 12 plates automated plates magazine and ground glass is present. Its serial number is No 451. The housing is blackened brass . It has three spirit levels and three tripod sockets.

In stereo mode, a moving partition ( septum ) separates the two images provided by the lenses. By sliding the front panel , there is only one lens facing the sensitive plate and thus a single image format 6 x 13 cm is possible. This is the panorama mode. The sliding of the front panel automatically folds the septum.

All models considered , Caillon have produced around 5000 cameras, which means an average of a pair of devices per day if you count a decade of activity.

The camera shown on this page was sold by « F. Jonte Deloye successeur 124, rue Lafayette, 126 Paris » Jonte was a manufacturer of cameras , but for this model , Jonte just affixed a plate with his name. Other retailers have done the same , but some retailers have changed the name in order for the camera to integrate their range of production .
