Chronology of cameras Stegemann

A. Stegemann was a maker from Berlin that produced cameras from late XIX century to c. 1950. The Hand-Camera was introduced c. 1895 and was made until c. 1905. This is a late 9 x 12 cm plate version as it has metal struts as opposed to the early cameras that had wooden struts. The focal plane shutter also seems to be a late model due having a selector for high and slow speeds, an improvement made around 1902.
The body is not covered by leather, simply finished in polished black wood. The lens is a Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar of 15 cm of focal length and maximum aperture of 4.5.
