Chronology of cameras Herlango

Not yet translated into English

Herlango Renox

__________

Herlango was one of the largest Austrian distributors of cameras. The company was founded in 1917 by Ferdinand Hrdliczka, Langer, and Rudolf Goldmann. The word "Herlango" is a contraction of parts of their names.
In Vienna and throughout the rest of Austria, the company had a network of several stores. The network expanded until 1992, the year of bankruptcy, and extended beyond national borders.

During the 1930s, the distributor published two catalogs per year, along with the magazine "Photo und Kino Sport."

Since Austria was not a camera-producing country, the distributor primarily sourced its products from Germany during the 1930s. It is presumed that this became an exclusive practice after the Anschluss in 1938.

What is Herlango? (Translated presentation from the 1931 catalog)Herlango

HerlangoMany amateur photographers have likely wondered, "What is Herlango exactly?" or "...this Herlango?"
In numerous locations in Austria, they see Herlango branches and sales points, and they read our advertisements in newspapers and magazines. They get the impression that they are dealing with one of the leading specialists in the photographic industry in Austria, so they are certainly interested in getting to know us better.
The headquarters of Herlango are located in Vienna's 3rd district at Rennweg 52. It comprises a residential building with a street-facing sales area, a back office, and factory rooms with a total area of approximately 5,000 square meters.

A spacious courtyard leads first to the sales and cash offices, then to the large storage and mail rooms.

HerlangoA wide staircase leads from the store to the first floor, where visitors are received. Here, one finds the management offices, the advertising department, the editors of "Photo and Cinema Sport," accounting, registration, the telephone center, and more. The management office allows visitors to step into the modern world.

Equipped with machines, skilled hands produce cameras, supplies, and specialized equipment for commercial and amateur use, including repair services.

HerlangoPrecious wood essences for processing are prepared for further treatment in a drying plant located beneath the factory floor and in the woodworking machinery room.
The studios are located on the third floor. Equipped with the most modern equipment, hundreds of thousands of plates and films are developed, retouched, copied, enlarged, reproduced in drawings and images, slides are produced, and all the photographer's wishes are fulfilled.

The large and friendly workspace is divided into darkrooms, copying rooms, washing rooms, and sorting rooms. A special laboratory handles enlargement and reproduction. It is worth noting that, in the interest of individual development, manual skill has not been completely abandoned. However, where machines can streamline human work, automatic fusion, washing, and drying machines are available.

HerlangoSeparate rooms are set up for processing Pathe Baby films. Again, every activity is thought out in great detail.

Maximum practicality and cleanliness ensure meticulous execution of all tasks.

Our classroom and conference room are shown below. Our students attend free courses on amateur photography and cinematography. Experienced professionals introduce beginners to the theory and practice of photography.

HerlangoDiscussion evenings for amateur Pathe Baby filmmakers are held here.
This room is available for demonstrations by our special departments for cinematography, radio, and projection. Potential buyers, with the help of expert explanations, quickly gain an overview of all the devices.

Next to the classroom and conference room are large darkrooms where photo enthusiasts, under the guidance of specialists, can perform darkroom practical work such as developing, copying, and enlarging. Special courses are also organized in this area.

They will find everything the filmmaker or amateur photographer needs, from the simplest instant shooting tool to the most perfect special machine. Our expert advice is readily available.
Our sales organization primarily extends throughout Austria.

All residents and likely many foreigners are familiar with our branches located on the main streets, whose addresses are listed on the cover page.

By the mid-1930s, Herlango had a fairly dense network of branches in Austria, located in all the major cities of the country.
Similar to other major European distributors, Herlango publishes a magazine titled "PHOTO UND KINO SPORT."
