Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon

The Ikonta (522/24) is often referred to as the Ikonta 35. It is exactly the same as the Contina I (522/24). This is one of the rare cases at Zeiss Ikon where the same reference is used for two different names. Both models were manufactured until May 1953, with the Ikonta 522/24 being reserved for export. From that date onward, only the name Contina I (522/24) continued to be used. It seems that Zeiss Ikon wanted to reserve the "Ikonta" name for medium-format film cameras.

It is a small folding camera using the 135 format, resembling the Minox 35 GT but slightly larger and much heavier. Nonetheless, it is quite compact for a camera of its era. The buttons for advancing or rewinding the film are located under the base, where the frame counter window is also situated. The camera is equipped with double-exposure prevention and cannot be armed without film.

Very robust and beautifully crafted, it reflects the attention to detail that was given to the manufacturing of entry-level cameras at the time.

As is customary with Zeiss Ikon, the model is available in various combinations of lenses and shutters, providing a range of prices to cater to different customer preferences.
