The Nicca company, whose initial name was Kogaku Seiki Sha, was founded in 1940 by former employees of the company Seiki Kogaku, which became thereafter, CANON. It specializes in the manufacture of rangefinders and other optical accessories. In 1941, the Ministry for the war of Japan, requires of the young company to work on a project of camera which would start again the features of Leica III. The research and development were done very quickly and without encumbers. From 1942, come out the first camera of the factory: The company then took the name of Nippon Camera Works in 1948 then, at the end of 1949, of NICCA camera works and lastly of NICCA Camera Company, Ltd. The company provides cameras for the Sears company under the name of Tower and engraved also cameras in the name of a big American store: Peerless. The latter, produced in small series, are very rare. In 1958 the company was repurchased by Yashica which manufactured its telemetric first 35mm with interchangeable lens: The YE.
