Chronology of cameras Nikon

This F80 took over from the F70 and tried to replace in photographers minds the much appreciated F801.

It marks the return of Nikon to a classicism of ergonomics.

Among the innovative functions is the display of information directly on the focusing screen through a network of liquid crystals. What is it used for ?

for example, to display a grid in the viewfinder. No need to change the focusing screen for this, a custom setting selection through dials is enough.

The desire of Nikon being to offer a camera body around 4000 francs, the engineers had to make some sacrifices on the altar of the economy. The manufacturing quality of this camera is inferior to that of the F100 and the F80 loses some technical characteristics which made the F801 success. The shutter is slower and the sync speed is down to 1/125. The film advance speed is limited to 2.5 frames / second.

Gag? there is no remote control socket, but a thread in the shutter release button.

Plastics have been widely used for manufacturing, but respecting quality processes guaranteeing great solidity.
