Chronology of cameras Meopta

If we had to find a common point between the "Automat" Rolleiflex and Flexaret, it would certainly be the elegance of these cameras, perhaps a little less discreet in the Czech apparatus.

The Flexaret is called "Automat" because the advance of the film, after the body is closed, after the film  is correctly positioned, drives the meter and cock the shutter; All this thanks to the mechanical sensor, here an axis that the friction of the film rotates.
winding of the film and cocking of the shutter are therefore coupled and simultaneously actuated by a single thumbwheel. A lever allows multi-exposure or not.

The motion of the optical unit (two identical lenses: Balar 80 1: 3.5) for the focusing is carried out by means of a part which moves laterally under the shooting lens .

The central shutter, a Pentacon Prestor, delivers speeds from 1s to 1/500 and bulb exposure with connected flash synchronization available at all speeds.
The opening of the back shows a winding mechanic of the film and a chamber constructed with care. An optional adapter kit allows the switch to 24 x 36 mm format.

The Flexaret VII Automat does not have the fame of its Germanic neighbor, but it is still a good way to initiate for less to the pleasures of the medium format.
