Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon
The Zeiss Ikon Nettel was the last camera of the long Nettel series that started in 1902, crossing several brand names. It was a very popular strut folding press camera. The Tropen (Tropical) models were made of hard wood suitable for the humid climate of tropical regions. The Tropen-Nettels are heavy cameras made of polished teak-wood with high quality finish.
This model was made from 1929 (when Zeiss Ikon abandoned the term Deckrullo) to 1937, and was designed for glass plates and cut film holders of 9 x 12 cm. The struts are the typical Nettel type, with automatic lock at infinity. The focusing is made by a knob above the shutter control on the right side of the camera, and scales both in meters and feet are located at the slot on the top of the camera. Also at the top you find a double spirit level and a simple accessory shoe. It has a direct vision frame and ground glass for accurate focusing.
The focal plane shutter is controlled by a single knob, and simpler to operate than previous versions of the Nettel. It delivers speeds from 1/3 to 1/2000 and B and T. The lens is a Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar of 15 cm of focal length and maximum aperture of 3,5.
A fantastic piece of engineering that reaches today high prices on the collectors’ market.
