The style exercise of the Soviet engineers in the private domain of German engineers: The central shutter SLR.
This exercise will produce 3 beautiful cameras that have nothing to envy their competitors: The Zenit 4, 5 and 6 with performances and remarkable finish.
Approximately 40,000 units will be produced: 20,000 Type 4, 11,600 Type 5 and 9,000 Type 6.
The model presented here is a SLR, with central shutter, interchangeable viewfinder and lenses.
As for the Zenit E, the cell is selenium, located on front. User selects the diaphragm and then the pointer in the viewfinder indicates the selected speed, as on the Bessamatic made by Voigtländer. The shutter speeds are ranging from 1 second to 1 / 500th of a second and B.
The lens is a Vega f: 2.8 / 50mm Bessamatic style bayonet mount.
The body comes with two interchangeable viewfinders, a prism and a waist level type.
The peculiarity of the Zenit 5 with respect to the model 4 is the addition of a film motor drive integrated in the bottom of the body, which induced one little extra cm in the thickness for the purpose.
Batteries are 4 in number and the unit comes with a charger.
Of course, there is an emergency cocking button on the cover to operate in manual mode ....
This is the first 35mm SLR camera in the world with built-in motor. 11,600 will be produced between 1964 and 1968.
