Les Vitomatic ont un saillant en façade qui protège la fenêtre d'une cellule. Dans le cas du Vitomatic IIa, ce saillant est séparé en deux. A gauche, il y a toujours la fenêtre de la cellule, et à droite, il y a la fenêtre d'un télémètre couplé.
Le Vitomatic IIa est très semblable au Vitomatic II de 1958, mais son obturateur atteint le 1/500 au lieu du 1/300 ème de seconde.
Il est doté d'un objectif Color Skopar 2,8/50 mm à 4 lentilles ou d'un Ultron 2/50 mm à 5 lentilles.
En son temps, ce fut le plus perfectionné de la série "Vito".
