Chronology of cameras Lachaize
After the war, a few rare Sem Kim or Reyna cameras underwent modification to receive a lens and shutter from the German Kodak factories. This often involved the use of a Compur-Rapid shutter and a Kodak Ektar or Schneider lens. These modified cameras commonly share a helical focusing system.
Although credited to Paul Lachaize, there is no concrete evidence supporting this attribution.
However, it is noteworthy that both examples on the site and other known cases exhibit identical helical mechanisms with a large focus knob and very legible distance and aperture markings (useful for hyperfocal focusing). The integration of the shutter mechanism is also seamlessly done. These modifications seem to be the work of the same craftsman.
The presented specimen features a Sem Kim body with original cracked paint, a characteristic found on other cameras of the same brand. It bears the serial number R222 and is equipped with a Kodak Anastigmat Ektar lens with an aperture of f/3.5 and a Compur-Rapid shutter.
