Chronology of cameras Astre
The 1914 Astre catalog does not specify the dimensions of the plates for this Folding Camera, making it difficult for us to definitively categorize it in the 9 x 12 Folding Camera table.
It is a colonial version designed to withstand the climate of the colonies. The wood used is teak, which is resistant to decay and widely used in shipbuilding. The metal reinforcements, which replace or complement the glue, are made of varnished copper. There is no covering to prevent mold. The bellows' leather, irreplaceable, is specially treated to resist insects.
The lens board is also made of varnished copper.
It has two viewfinders, one of which unfolds and retracts automatically upon opening and closing the camera. Focusing is done by rack and pinion.
It comes in several versions, depending on the lens that is included:
Model | N° | Price 1914 | Made of | Leatherette | Bellows | Lens | Shutter | Focusing |
