Chronology of cameras Houghton

It is a small folding plate camera made of mahogany and aluminum, covered with black leather. The framing and the focus is made on a ground glass with shade, but a pivoting clear viewfinder is also present on the lens block.

It could be delivered with other lenses, including: Rapid Achromatic, Rectimat Symmetrical f 6.8, Ensign Anastigmat f 7.7, Ensign Anastigmat f 6, Aldis Plano Anastigmat f 6.8, Zeiss Triotar Anastigmat f 6.3

The model presented has a Symmetrical Lens Series I Extra-Rapid Rectimat with a 8 aperture.
It was manufactured after 1912, according to the U-shaped lens support but before 1915 by the brand manufacturer: Houghton's Limited.

Prior to 1912, it was made by Krugener (Germany) Houghton being the importer of the brand in the United Kingdom.

George Houghton and the French Antoine Claudet (lens manufacturer) have created in 1836 the Claudet and Houghton company for making glasses, opticals, but later on photographic equipment.

The company has changed its name several times: George Houghton & Son (1867), Houghton's Limited (1904), Houghton-Butcher Manufacturing Co. (1915), Ensign Limited (1930) and other names until 1961, year of closure for Ross Ensign.
