Chronology of cameras Ricoh
Ricohflex The Model III is the first in a product line that will change for almost a decade.
It is a simple model designed to democratize the Twin Lens Reflex by lowering production costs.
Built in mass of pressed sheet metal, it is considered as the first TLR to be built to the chain.
Although it is very simple and inexpensive it is nevertheless true Reflex camera with a focusing screen, the viewfinder receiving even a small magnifying glass (probably optional).
The viewing and taking optics are identical triplets.
The focusing hood without automatic fallback is very similar to that of Ricohflex B built during the war, the size and weight of the two devices are also very close.
The flat back on a hinge does not allow to clear the dark room as a L back and must remove an internal cassette that serves as film path and spool holder to install the film (see Ricohflex Super pictures)
There is no protection against double exposures or locking mechanism to advance the views nor a counter.
In return it is a lightweight and compact camera for a TLR.
The main problems of the geared lenses are a not very nice handling and the movement is often blocked by the age on these devices.
Most Ricohflex Model III and IV have a wear mark more or less pronounced on the right of the front plate, visible here on the "e" Ricohflex.
The fault lies with the leather housing of the camera that includes a steel snap in this location
This diagram created by VB allows us to measure the complexity of Ricoh's history.
