Ce modèle fut présenté à la PMA de mai 1981, à Miami, en version noire. La version argentée ne sera présentée qu'en novembre au Salon de Paris.
Le U signifie Ultra-Compact. C'est effectivement un petit appareil, inspiré, peut-être, par l'OlympusXA. Sa face avant est bombée, et un petit curseur ouvre au milieu de la protubérance, un petit carré qui dévoile l'objectif grand angle. Sur le coté de la protubérance, au style spatial, un curseur permet de régler la distance de mise au point, à partir de 1 m.
