Nous atteignons avec ce Nikon S3, le petit nombre des appareils mythiques. Pour le prouver, en l'honneur du passage à l'an 2000, Nikon le réédite sous le nom Nikon S3 year 2000. La seule différence avec le Nikon SP, réside dans son viseur "trifocal" (35, 50 et 105 mm).
Il fut fabirqué à environ 14000 exemplaires.
