Chronology of cameras Argus

The Argus A was manufactured from 1936 to 1941. It is a camera constructed of bakelite (usually black, but sometimes brown or gray), with the back being made of metal. The lens is mounted on a retractable tube attached to a spring mechanism.

This camera is likely difficult to find in France but is quite common in the USA. In 1941, this camera was priced at $10.

On this particular specimen, the film drive capstan is double.

__________

The Argus A series cameras are 35mm cameras (with the exception of a later plastic model, a 126 film camera, not presented here) made of bakelite for the front part and metal for the rear part. The metal rear portion is entirely removable. The lens is on a retractable tube mounted on a spring.
On all A models (except the FA), the rear part is decorated with geometric designs inspired by Art Deco.
