Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon

The Super Ikonta 6 x 6 cameras were successful and were produced from 1935 to 1960. They inherited the qualities of other Super Ikonta cameras. Adaptations to technical advancements were made throughout their production, including the integration of a light meter, which was not done for the vertical Super Ikonta models.

The early models of the Super Ikonta 6 x 6 had a small viewfinder, with the top part at the level of the camera's top cover. Coded as 530/16, they were manufactured from 1937 to 1937. Starting in 1937, the Super Ikonta I (532/16) featured a large viewfinder that protruded above the top line of the camera's cover. The rangefinder was coupled with the viewfinder, and there were only two windows on the front, not three. This same model was produced until the end of the war. Without a change in the model code, production resumed after the war, from 1948 to 1956, with a synchronized shutter from 1952 onwards.

Just before the war, a new version with an integrated light meter was added to the lineup. This version is labeled as 533/16. From this version onwards and for subsequent models, it seems that the front part of the rangefinder is silver instead of black. The version with the light meter is called the Super Ikonta II.

Production of this version resumed from 1948 to 1955. It is known as the Super Ikonta II or Super Ikonta BX. The shutter is synchronized from 1952 onwards.

The Super Ikonta III (531/16) underwent a configuration change, as the rangefinder was fully integrated into a new cover. It was manufactured from 1953 to 1958.
The Super Ikonta IV (534/16) added a light meter to the 531/16 model. This comprehensive version was produced from 1955 to 1960.
