Chronology of cameras Beck R J

The Dai-Cornex cameras (Dai for Day) are magazine box cameras designed to load plates in daylight. This system was patented. About a dozen blank plates, in the quarter-plate format, are positioned inside a light-tight envelope, except for the side that enters the camera first. At this point, light-tightness must be ensured by a false plate, or the first plate needs to be sacrificed. The envelope is held tight by a strap. Once attached to rails, the entire assembly is pushed inside the detective camera. To proceed with the usual operation of a detective camera, you need to release the strap. Once all the plates have been exposed, they must be retrieved from the back of the camera. The explanation for returning them to the envelope to protect them from light is somewhat vague.

Similar to the Cornex cameras, the Dai-Cornex cameras are divided into two ranges. The first range consists of cameras equipped with lower-end lenses and includes models A, B, and C. There is no focusing; you must use the provided lens caps for close-up shots.

The second range includes models D, Fx, Fy, and H. They have a Celverex or Sector shutter (except for the H model). The covering is made of Moroccan leather. All lenses in this range are Beck lenses. The viewfinders have a bubble level nearby. Focus is achieved by moving a plate that supports the lens and shutter back and forth inside the camera by manipulating a wheel on the side.

  Lens Shutter Price (c. 1905)

In 1854, two brothers, Richard and Joseph Beck, renamed their London-based optics and microscope company to R & J Beck Ltd after the withdrawal of their third partner, James Smith. The production of cameras began in 1880, and it was in 1892 that the Frena models with their unique system of a notched-edge roll film magazine were introduced.
