Ce reflex automatique fut fabriqué à 35 500 exemplaires entre 1961 et 1965.
A la différence des Bessamatic, il possède un miroir à retour rapide. Les objectifs des Bessamatic peuvent être utilisés sur l'Ultramatic, mais ne permettent pas tous de recourir à l'automatisme. Seuls ceux dont une des vis arrière de l'objectif est peinte en jaune le permettent.
