Chronology of cameras Daiichi Kiko
This camera is quoted in Japanese commercials of its time with both names Primo II and Semi Primo II.
The Semi name has been retained in the Mc Keown's and the Sugiyama, I did the same, but it is actually the name PRIMO which is embossed in the leatherette on the side and screen printed on the front of the shutter.
It is, like many contemporary Japanese foldings, highly inspired from German foldings Zeiss Ikon such as this Nettar for example.
The focusing is done by moving the front lens group only, but the shutter is efficient, ranging poses from one second to 1/500 s
The nearest button from the viewfinder unlocks the front door that lowering to the bottom provides a stable base for placing the product , thus favoring the portrait mode.
It also frees the viewfinder that unfolds automatically . The second button on the top is the shutter release.
There is also a Primo I contemporary to this Primo II.
According Camera-wiki, the main differences between these Primo , appear to be a completely black paint and a lens aperture of f 4.5 for the Model I , which would justify the price difference between the two devices by 18% in 1942. However the Mc Keown's and the Sugiyama also report an aperture of f 3.5 for the Primo I, which would make a high price for just some chrome trim on the Primo II.
Camera- wiki reports that the shutter was manufactured by Kinshō Kōki Seisakusho and the lens by Ōki Kōgaku Seiki Seisaku-sho .
