Chronology of cameras Mattioli

This device has no visible trademark, but is clearly part of the "Indiscret" series made by Mattioli. The body is made of polished aluminum for the outside, and finely corked for the inside of the bed. The fittings are carefully nickel-plated. The bellows slides on two rods for focusing, and an eccentric keeps the optical block in position by the handle visible to starboard. A stop limits the position on infinity, and one has to press a small spring to make the focus on close distance.
Cleverly, when it is retracted, the bellows is held by a single central rod, and not on an extension of the guide rods, which avoids such unpleasant wedging on this kind of folding.
For this luxury model, Mattioli preferred an imported Baush & Lomb optical block. The diaphragm apertures are graduated in millimeters according to the diameter of the pupil, making it adaptable for different focal lengths.
It may be noted that the joints are fixed to the bed by a trilobal part provided with a curved spring in one piece. This particular part will remain a characteristic of the productions of Jousset, the successor of Mattioli in 1909
