Chronology of cameras Beijing Factory

The Great Wall DF cameras are medium format SLR cameras derived from the KW Pilot Super of the 1930s.

While the camera is not unpleasant to use, its ergonomics could be improved. Due to the absence of diaphragm preselection, focusing must be done before adjusting the aperture. A split-image rangefinder and a microprism ring on the focusing screen assist in this process.

The winding mechanism involves turning the shutter speed selector dial counterclockwise, which may not be the most intuitive, and care must be taken to prevent it from rubbing against the thumb during shutter release, as this could affect the exposure time. A hole on the right side of the viewfinder serves as a socket for a cable release.

The nameplates, even when written in Latin characters, seldom provide the exact model. According to information from a Chinese publication on Chinese cameras, the DF-5 can be identified by the simultaneous presence of a self-timer and a flash sync socket, and it was released in 1985.

Although the lens is interchangeable with a 39mm screw mount at a pitch of 1mm, it appears that no other lenses besides the 90mm were developed for this camera.
