Chronology of cameras Bellieni
Bellieni’s ‘Appareil de Poche’ appeared for the first time in the maker’s catalogue of 1903 in the format 8 x 10 cm, and according to the text it was developed to meet the demand of a light and small camera for the traveller and action amateur photographer. In 1905 Bellieni delivered also the camera in 9 x 12 cm format. The Appareil de Poche was made until circa 1914. The camera casing has a dark green leather cover and red bellows.
The camera is clearly derived from the Goerz-Anschutz klapp-camera. Not only it has an Anschutz type focal plane shutter, as many other cameras of that time, but has exactly the same shutter, that also fits the Jumelle Universelle presented in 1901. It suggests that Goerz provided the whole shutter unit. Also the struts are equal, and the leather cover and the back viewing hood of the same type as the tropical Anschutz. The front standard is also very similar, except that the Appareil de Poche has a unique large frame finder and scales for vertical and horizontal movement. But the Appareil de Poche was delivered for 8 x 10 cm plates, a format that Goerz did not produce. While the Goerz-Anschutz was a fully wooden bodied, the Appareil de Poche has significant parts in metal and rounded casing corners.
This camera is for 8 x 10 cm plates. The non self-capped Anschutz focal plane shutter delivers speeds in the range of 1/30 to 1/1000 seconds, obtained from a combination of spring tension in the lower drum and width of blind slit (1 mm to 5 cm). The lens is a Goerz Doppel Anastigmat Serie III Dagor, with a focal length of 120 mm and maximum aperture of 6.8.
