Ricoh fait évoluer sa gamme GR, semant la confusion par le nom et la numérotation des modèles. Celui-ci est le dernier de la série GR Digital. Il sera remplacé par le GR, avec capteur APS-C.
On retiendra parmi les qualités de ce modèle son objectif grand-angle ouvrant à 1,9. Au rang des critiques, on peut citer la vidéo, mais ce n'est clairement pas ce que recherche la clientèle de ce type d'appareil de poche.
