Chronology of cameras Canon
Traduction de Manuel M
Canon P was put on the market in March 1959. End of manufacture during 1961.
Called P for Popular, this attempt of Canon to produce a simplified telemetric camera with lower costs was a business success with the sales of 87875 specimens. Today, its simplicity, its reliability, and its quality of manufacture make a coveted camera of it.
Its main features are:
- Interchangeable lens with the Leica format screwing of 39mm.
- Rangefinder viewfinder combined with auto-correction of parallax with frames of centring for focal distances 35.50 and 100mm.
- Cocking by lever, focal plane shutter with steel curtains giving of the second to the 1/1000s, synchronization X and M with the 1/25s
- Back with hinge
- Crank of rewinding
- Standard lens Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.4 of series, f/1.2 on order.
Canon P is in my eyes one of best telemetric ever built. Solid, smart, balanced well, it is a beast for photography. It shameless compares any with Leica m2 and m3 of which it was the direct competitor, and the progress made compared to the former series is enormous. The back with hinge, the cocking lever, and the crank of rewinding make a modern camera of it.
Selling prices 52700 Yen in 1959.
