Chronology of cameras Pentax
Traduction de Luc Moreau
In 1982 Pentax launched the MG, which would eventually replace the ME, abandoned after the release of the ME Super. This is an aperture priority automatic exposure (only) body. The mode selection button, around the shutter release button, only allows the choice between AUTO (1 second to 1/1000 sec), 100X (flash sync at 1/100 sec), and B (Bulb) settings. The meter cell is powered on by a half press of the shutter release. The LED display in the viewfinder, indicating the selected shutter speed, goes off after a time-out delay in order to conserve battery.
Features of the Pentax MG
- SLR with aperture priority automatic exposure
- The viewfinder displays the shutter speed, but unlike the MX it doesn't have the prism window opening showing the selected value directly on the aperture ring. A green LED is lit in front of fast speeds, a yellow LED indicates slow speeds (requiring to set the camera on a tripod) and red LEDs indicate underexposure (UNDER) or over-exposure (OVER) .
- The film loading is provided by the "magic needle" system (also present on all Pentax cameras produced after the MX).
- Shutter Seiko MFC, electronically controlled focal-plane, metal blade with vertical movement, it offers the following speeds: Bulb, 1 second to 1/1000. Flash sync speed of 1/100 sec. It has a delayed action timer (the lever to the right of the lens) but can not manually close the diaphragm and preview the depth of field. Adjusting the sensitivity of the film is performed by the ring surrounding the rewind crank. An exposure compensation can be obtaining only by modifying this setting.
- Standard Lens: SMC Pentax 50mm F:1.7. The MG accepts all K bayonet lenses except lenses without an aperture ring or specifically dedicated to digital cameras.
The classical accessories are adaptable to this camera: focal multipliers, extension tubes and bellows. It can also receive a winder (ME or ME II Winder) and a data back.
