The Socialmatic is one of a kind, a strange object from outerspace !
(Very) strongly inspired by the Instagram logo for its design, it not only embeds an instant printing mechanism, but adds a storage on SD card, wifi and bluetooth connections, a GPS and a touch screen lcd driven by Android !
A real tablet, able to photograph, share and print.
The shooting functions are classic, no adjustments required, everything is managed by the electronics on board as usual, with a 14 MP sensor on the front and 2 MP on the back for selfies, and a led type flash on the front. The big difference with the usual design of the brand is that there is no more viewfinder but an LCD screen. The images are stored internally or on the SD card and the wifi and bluetooth connections allow an easy and fast sharing through Android applications as any smartphone.
The Socialmatic is equipped with a microphone for high definition video recording.
The printing feature uses the new Zink technology, a thermal system which reveals crystals embedded in the paper (sheets are sold in bundles, are independent and not sensitive to light). No more risk of bad results due to faulty chemistry. Moreover, the photos can be modified before printing, with some special effects. The printing is not automatic but done on demand and thus allows several prints of the same image. The format is however very small with 5 x 7.6 cm. But, just for fun, the back of the paper is ... sticky ! Let's put this one on the fridge !
Obviously, it does not fit in a jeans pocket, it' very slow to start, complete but not perfect, and various technical problems associated with an asthmatic battery quickly pushed it out of the market.
The brand reworked the concept later, creating mpore simple products, with the snap and a little later the snaptouch.
