Chronology of cameras Hyundai

Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., better known as Hyundai Electronics (now SK hynix), was founded in 1983. It is the semiconductor branch of the South Korean conglomerate Hyundai Group (with origins dating back to 1947).

Following Samsung Precision's partnership with Minolta in 1979, in the 1980s, several Cheabols sought to establish technological partnerships with Japanese manufacturers of photographic equipment.
For Hyundai Electronics, the partnership began in 1989 with Olympus as their Japanese partner1.

Hyundai camera exports to the United States commenced as early as 19902.
After the models produced in cooperation with Olympus, Hyundai marketed compact cameras under its own brand.

The Superzoom 850 Panorama is available in champagne and black finishes.

The term "Panorama" is derived from the camera's ability to capture panoramic shots using an adapter that fits into the dark chamber. This adapter must be positioned before loading the film, allowing for 13 x 36 mm format shots. It's important to note that this accessory does not allow switching back to the 24 x 36 mm format mid-roll. This same adapter is also used in the Olympus Hyundai AZ-330 Panorama and Olympus Hyundai IS-2000 models.

This compact camera was also sold under other brand names:

- Vivitar offered the Series 1 Superzoom 850 Data Back, which featured a two-tone color scheme (champagne and black). Vivitar also had a version without a date back, labeled as Series 1 Superzoom 850.
- Photoline offered the Superzoom 850 in black without a date back.

The "Made in Korea" marking on the base of Hyundai and Vivitar cameras strongly suggests their country of origin. However, it's worth noting that the Photoline camera does not bear a country of origin marking.

During that period, many cameras sold in South Korea and Japan were equipped with date backs. The capability to shoot in panorama mode was also appreciated, as seen in cameras like the Samsung Kenox GX-1 (1997) and the Nikon F60D (1998), which both had mechanisms to switch formats mid-roll.
