Chronology of cameras Ricoh
It is sometimes difficult to understand Ricoh's system of model numbers. The FF-7 ('monkey') was released in 1989, the FF-20 in 1994; the RZ series, began in the late 1980's..
The FF-7z, as the very discrete "z" suggests, is a zoom lens compact, or rather a multi focal length camera. The lens has only 3 focal lengths between 35 mm and 70 mm for a total of 5. Unlike most of its competitors, Ricoh produced a number of cameras in the 1980's and 90's with a true 2X magnification starting at 35 mm.
The camera has a sliding cover over the lens, which also acts as the on/off switch. The shutter has longer 'speeds' than the earlier RZ-735, so it can operate in less favorable light conditions. Otherwise its' specification is similar.
Was the FF-7 so popular that Ricoh tried to cash in on the same model number 13 years later?
